DiGi sets pace for growth in Sarawak
Wider network coverage, 30% increase in dealer base, stronger brand presence

KUCHING, 2 June 2006 -DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") remains fully committed to the Sarawak market and will continue to make its presence felt locally.

DiGi's Head of Segment Marketing Puan Yohani Yusof said the company plans to continue strengthening its presence in Sarawak through a three-pronged strategy comprising:

  • Enhancing and widening its network coverage in the state
  • Expanding its dealer network
  • Strengthening its brand presence in the market "As the leading telecommunications provider in east Malaysia, we want to keep challenging ourselves to provide better services and products to our customers. We are determined to continue setting the pace for innovation and growth here," she explained.
  • DiGi aims to widen its coverage in Sarawak to include more rural and sub-urban areas while expanding its widest high-speed mobile coverage, Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution ("EDGE") services to more urban areas.
  • "The first thrust of our strategy is to enhance our network coverage in urban areas such as Miri, Bintulu and Sibu with EDGE, and expand our network coverage to more rural and sub-urban areas such as Kota Samarahan, Bau, Serian, Mukah, Sri Aman, Lundu and Saratok by year end. We want our customers to be able to stay connected wherever they go," she said.
  • Additionally, DiGi will also be expanding its dealer network from 505 to 656 in Sarawak, a 30 percent increase. New dealers will be appointed in areas such as Bintangor, Lawas, Lundu and Sarikei.
  • "The second thrust of our strategy in Sarawak this year is to expand our dealer network. This ensures that we are able to better support our current customers and reach new, potential customers more effectively. Our goal is to be as accessible as possible to our customers" Puan Yohani said.
  • "Every new dealer appointed will receive necessary training and be properly equipped to support our customers. They will also serve as our customer service points, where customers can purchase our products and services," she explained.
  • Puan Yohani added that DiGi was also strengthening its brand presence in Sarawak through activities like its GeGeRiuh Carnival, to be held 3 June 2006 in Kuching.
  • "On-ground events like GeGeRiuh allow us to reach our customers directly at a grassroots level in a manner that is both impactful and tangible. We want to make our presence felt and show our customers we share their joy and celebrations. This is our way of connecting with our customers beyond just providing great service and a better value proposition," she said.
  • GeGeRiuh will be held at Stadium Sarawak, Petra Jaya, Kuching from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. on Saturday 3rd June 2006. Admission to the GeGeRiuh Carnival is free; and members of the public are invited to come for the experience.
