DiGi Kicks Off 2nd Edition of Deep Green Challenge for Change
SHAH ALAM, 10 AUGUST 2010: DiGi.Com Berhad ("DiGi") today launched Deep Green Challenge for Change 2010 - a competition for Malaysians and students of all institutes of higher learning to showcase the best GreenTech and Social Venture Ideas.
Challenge for Change is aligned with DiGi's Deep Green programme which addresses energy efficiency within the company's business, and broader areas of sustainability with related stakeholders. Deep Green includes key initiatives involving DiGi's network, information technology (IT) systems, building and facilities, fleet and initiatives with employees, customers, partners, and the community.
15 teams from eight Malaysian universities participated in the inaugural Challenge for Change programme, which kicked-off in July 2009. Six (6) teams were then selected for the final round where they undertook projects to research and design proof of concepts of renewable energy solutions for rural, underserved communities in Malaysia.
DiGi's chief executive officer Henrik Clausen said that last year's success encouraged DiGi to push the envelope on climate change and take this programme to the next level. "This year's programme focuses on entrepreneurship of green practices and gives local talents international exposure. Additionally, we've also aligned the programme to incorporate environmental practices at Community Broadband Centers to enhance our support for development of broadband in rural areas," added Clausen.
This year's Challenge for Change 2010 aims to instill values of sustainability and encourage entrepreneurship among all Malaysians.
Participants are invited to take part in two challenges:
1) Social Venture Challenge:
2) CleanTech Global Ideas Challenge:
Participants are invited to submit their entries by 4 October 2010. The Deep Green Challenge for Change 2010 is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water.Â
