DiGi Flood Relief Drive
Sets-up collection centers in response to Johor floods, leads donation with first batch of materials

SHAH ALAM, 2 FEBRUARY 2011: About 50,000 people from 18,000 families have been evacuated to flood relief centres, as floods continue to inundate low-lying districts in Johor and Malacca. Thousands are stranded with no electricity, food or clean water.

As an immediate relief effort, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi) is organising a collection drive where the public can donate much needed essential supplies. 'DiGi Flood Relief Drive' aims to collect rice, milk powder, blankets and mats from the public and will deliver them directly to evacuation centres in Johor over the next few days. DiGi will be donating the first batch of essentials while we gather the public's contribution.

From 2 to 6 February 2011, public can donate any amount of the identified items to one of the three collection centers at DiGi Retail centres located in SS2, Petaling Jaya; Solaris, Mont KIara; and Bukit Tinggi, Klang respectively.

Zaiton Hj Idrus, Head of Corporate Affairs said: "Our heart goes out to the plight of the flood victims and those who have been affected by this sudden catastrophe, coming so close on the heels of a major festive season. We're doing everything we can to help out in any small way that we can."

"Emergency telecommunication services have already been re-established in the affected areas and we are providing a RM3 talk time credit for more than 11,000 subscribers so they can stay in touch with their loved ones."

To encourage public participation, DiGi will be sending SMS blasts to its customers and radio announcements on Era FM and Hitz FM to disseminate information on the relief project.
