KUCHING, 3 April 2019 - Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) is collaborating with Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (Trienekens) to provide connectivity to Kampung Sungai Tapang. This initiative is one such that answers the state government’s call through Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to develop and move the underserved community towards a Digital Economy.

The residents of Kampung Sungai Tapang suffered from poor coverage due to their proximity to the airport, and many have resorted to spending their time at the airport perimeter road daily after 6pm as it was the only area with good coverage.

According to Trienekens CEO Stephen Chin, the company is always looking for ways to contribute to the Sungai Tapang community where its head office and depot is located.

"Previously we worked on improving the village's amenities and raising environmental awareness in the school. Our recent discussions with the village residents revealed that they were experiencing network connectivity problems in the area. It is our pleasure to partner with Digi, who responded quickly to our request to provide the residents with the necessary to raise their quality of living and ensure their safety as well," he said.

This collaboration is part of Digi's efforts and commitment to provide connectivity to more Malaysians across the country through its robust 4G Plus network. As of October 2018, 76% of the Sarawak population coverage have access to Digi’s LTE technology, whilst 41% have access to LTE-A technology.

Digi's Head of Region Sarawak, Casper Goh, said, “We are grateful for this opportunity to set up a base station to provide coverage for the village residents. Digi is constantly looking for ways to enrich our customers’ lives as we work towards bridging the digital gap present in such areas."

To mark the collaboration, Digi and Trienekens co-organised several fun activities for the residents to enjoy over the weekend. Residents also got to enjoy special subsidies for each phone bundle sold and Digi line registration during the event, courtesy of Trienekens.
