DiGi's GeGeRiuh Storms Up Kelantan
Making its debut in east coast, GeGeRiuh attracts thousands to a day of celebrities and entertainment
Kelantan, April 29, 2006 - DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") wooed people in Kelantan and Terengganu through its strategic plans in building the DiGi brand among the local communities.
This weekend, thousands of people from the local communities in Kelantan joined DiGi in its inaugural GeGeRiuh carnival and concert in Tanah Merah for a full day of fun activities.
According to Puan Yohani Yusof, General Manager - Head of Segment Marketing, "East coast is a very important segment to DiGi and we are continuously engaging the east coast consumers with DiGi's brand for the longer term."
"Since January 2006, DiGi has been aggressively establishing our presence through a series of concerted, targeted programmes and specific products and services, catering to local communities in Kelantan and Terengganu.
"DiGi is constantly looking at firming up new and exciting packages specifically for the communities in east coast, as the communities here are unique, with their own set of needs and requirements unlike other states," she said.
Yohani highlighted that DiGi users can now enjoy services like the mobile vouchersâ„¢ which are now available in Kelantan and Terengganu.
"DiGi customers in Kelantan and Terengganu will now be able to enjoy special offers and discount rates with local merchandisers through DiGi mobile vouchersâ„¢."We have signed up with a list of partners in Terengganu and we are now looking into expanding the partnerships in Kelantan.
Yohani commented that in order to meet consumers demands, DiGi has expanded its dealers in Kelantan and Terengganu from 45 and 37 dealers respectively, to 138 in both states since early this year.
Stressing the company's commitment to expand the network in the east coast, Yohani also announced that DiGi coverage is now extended to Telosan, Telong, Kampung Bunohan in Kelantan; and Belara, Tepoh, Kampung Tembila and Gong Bala in Terengganu. DiGi aims for 90% population coverage nationwide by 2007/2008, with over 60% EDGE coverage by end this year.
"The east coast communities can relate to "GeGeRiuh" which means a cacophony of loud cheerful noises in the Kelantanese dialect. GeGeRiuh carnival and concert is part of DiGi's commitment to championing exciting events that bring families together and foster community relationships." Yohani added.
The full day event in Kelantan kicked off in a grand style with celebrity parades in various locations, and the staging of traditional games and competitions ending with a big-bang Konsert GeGeRiuh in Tanah Merah.
The colourful Konsert GeGeRiuh, featured celebrities including Saiful Apek, Hijjaz, Anuar Zain and Megat Nordin. In addition, a group of lucky DiGi customers will also be treated to special passes to a "Meet-and-Greet" session with the celebrities.
The DiGi GeGeRiuh Carnival will be making Kuala Terengganu its next stop, for its nationwide tour on May 6, 2006.
