DiGi partners Etiqa to offer Syariah-based Protection plans
Collaboration paves the way for the launch of Takaful Personal Accident Plan on mobile

SHAH ALAM, 1 SEPTEMBER 2010: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi") has entered into a partnership with Etiqa Takaful Berhad to provide DiGi customers with Takaful offerings via easy SMS activation.

To mark the collaboration, DiGi and Etiqa today launched the Takaful Personal Accident Plan ("Takaful PA Plan"), giving all DiGi postpaid and prepaid customers who prefer an Islamic option the choice of either the RM50,000 or RM100,000 coverage for a nominal RM3 or RM6 per month, respectively.

Complementing its existing conventional insurance offering, DiGi now offers comprehensive coverage options on mobile minus the hassle of filling up complicated forms and having to meet agents.

Speaking at the event, Henrik Clausen, DiGi's Chief Executive Officer said, "The wide use of mobile phones today has triggered development of mobile applications for conventional services to cater to changing customer needs.

"In this instance, our Takaful offerings will help us to value-add our current services and address a wider customer base with different preferences. By partnering the No.1 Takaful provider in the country, our customers who prefer an Islamic option now have the choice of a reliable syariah-compliant Takaful PA at their finger tips," added Clausen.

Speaking on behalf of Etiqa, Dato' Aminuddin MD Desa, its Chief Executive Officer and Director explained, "This partnership with DiGi proves Etiqa's capability as a true multi-channel insurance provider and takaful distributors as customers can now obtain insurance and takaful protection through SMS in addition to our usual channels of 23,000 agents, 33 branches, 450 Maybank branches and other third party banks around the country, and through the Etiqa Oneline call centre and www.etiqa.com.my."

The winner of the 'Most Outstanding Takaful Company' at the recent Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Award 2010, the Etiqa Takaful Personal Accident Plan provides coverage for personal accidents to any Malaysian and non-Malaysian individual aged between 12 and 70 years, and offers 24 hours worldwide coverage. During the financial year of 2009/2010, Etiqa Takaful Berhad recorded RM72 million in premium for its personal accident products.

DiGi customers who are interested in the Takaful PA Plan can easily subscribe via a 3-step mobile application. All they need to do is SMS "TKD" to 2000 for further information.
