Digi inspires Malaysians to stand up against cyberbullying
First-of-its-kind mega-event themed Us vs Cyberbullying attracted over 3,000 youth and families
PETALING JAYA, 1 OCTOBER 2016 - Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("Digi") today held the Us vs Cyberbullying mega-event to create awareness on cyberbullying amongst the public especially parents and the younger generation.
With the aim to reach out to the masses and spread the word on the importance of keeping safe on the Internet and why everyone has a role in fighting against cyberbullying, this initiative is aligned to Digi's commitment to safeguard the customers' digital life.
"As we connect more people and introduce them to the benefits and opportunities that come with the digital world, we are committed to help our customers build their digital resilience. Over the years we have worked with partners to help schoolchildren and educators learn to identify risks and equip themselves with ways to keep themself safe online through workshops, educational collaterals and other engagements activities," said Quah Yean Nie, Digi's Head of Communications and Sustainability.
"The role of parents and educators is increasingly important to create a wholesome ecosystem where children and youth feel confident to engage in dialogue and have a safe space they can escalate the challenges they face. The purpose of this gathering is therefore to create a platform where people from all walks of life come together to learn about cyberbullying with the friends and families," she added.
The event was supported by Digi's CyberSAFE programme partners: Astro, Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Ministry of Communication and Multimedia (KKMM), Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), UNICEF Malaysia, CyberSecurity Malaysia, and Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) such as, Protect and Save the Children, Generasi Gemilang, Childline Malaysia and Women:girls.
Each partner had booths with engaging games and activities for both adults and children of all ages designed with educational elements incorporated into it. Participants had the opportunity to learn and recognise the dangers of cyberbullying as well as how to address and prevent the issue.
Besides that, attendees of the event were also treated to entertaining performances by local celebrities, such as KRU, Sawyer, Johanis Sabri, Khai Bahar, Juztin Lan and many more.
