Capturing A 'Postcard' Perfect Image
Visual arts take centre stage in Apostrophe's 2nd programme

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 October 2007: Apostrophe, the creative expression platform that is the brainchild of DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("DiGi"), kicks off its second creative programme, Postcards.

Postcards continues Apostrophe's objective of inspiring creative expression through simple, fresh and innovative programmes. Apostrophe as a platform links ideas and connects a community of like-minded Malaysians to express themselves through the arts. In this second programme, the emphasis is on visual arts coming after Apostrophe's first programme, Short Short Story.

Centred on the theme of 1.30pm, Postcards participants are required to submit a postcard-sized image or series of no more than 5 postcard-sized images which could be a photograph, sketch, painting or drawing. All entries must measure no larger than 17.78cm x 12.7cm (equivalent to 5R) and must bear a title. Participants also have the option of including a description of their piece of work in no more than 30 words.

"With Postcards, we want to show that art is not limited by the size of the canvas. We are encouraging participants to tap the rich tapestry of life in motion around them and use this backdrop to get their creative juices flowing," said Tunku Alizakri Alias, DiGi's Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs.

"It's all about challenging conventional forms of artistic expression in innovative and different ways," he added.

All Apostrophe programmes are supported by 'Expression Sessions', a series of free workshops that will be facilitated by mentors who are well-established proponents in the particular field of creativity for each programme.

The five mentors for Postcards are Bernice Chauly, Eiffel Chong, Gabrielle Bates, Sharon Lam and Tan Sei Hon. All the mentors are skilled individuals from various disciplines in the field of visual arts.

"Apostrophe is also about guiding, encouraging and sustaining the flow of creativity. Through the Expression Sessions we are able to bring the talent and knowledge of experts to help participants explore and develop their own creativity," said Tunku Alizakri.

The five mentors' works will also be featured in a specially created Postcards exhibition which will take place at various local colleges. This travelling exhibition will feature creative works by the five mentors highlighting the Postcards theme in their respective fields of creative speciality. In addition, interpretations of the mentors' submissions in specially created 3D artwork by visual artist Nuriman Amri bin Abd Manapwill also be on display at the exhibition venues.

Submissions for Postcards will be accepted from October 8 to November 16, 2007.  A panel made up of Tunku Alizakri representing DiGi and the five mentors will evaluate the entries. The top 16 entries short-listed by the panel will be interpreted as unique visual art pieces. These will then be showcased at a presentation exhibition as well as profiled on the Apostrophe website. Of the 16 short-listed submissions, six winning entries will then be selected.

The six winners of Postcards will be rewarded with an all expense paid trip to Bangkok that will take them on a guided tour by an expert who will present them with a unique insider's perspective of the creative aspects of Bangkok. The trip will tentatively take place from 13 to 16 December 2007. Winners will also receive a Sony Ericsson mobile phone.

Participants simply need to log onto www.apostrophegallery.com to send their submissions via email. DiGi customers can also opt to send their entries by MMS to PC<space>Title <space> Enter title <space> Enter description> to 2000. MMS submissions will be charged at RM0.50 per MMS.
