ARTICLE – Practical Tips To Help SMEs Go Digital

Press Release

Technology is a huge part of our lives – you’re probably reading this on your smartphone, laptop or tablet right now! In a time where we have to stay apart to stay safe, connectivity has proven to be more important than ever before. This rings true for many, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro businesses that have had to turn to the internet and digital technology to stay afloat.

During a recent webinar panel discussion, Digi’s Chief Business Officer, Eugene Teh shared how SMEs can use this time to accelerate their digitalisation journey and grow their business in today’s digital economy. Here are 4 practical tips to help SMEs go digital:

1. Start Small

Embark on this journey one step at a time. A good area to start is often at the frontlines, where your customers are. Consider how you can complement your physical store by creating an online presence through available e-commerce platforms. From there, work out how to manage payments digitally, set up supply chain such as last-mile delivery, and eventually create a community that can help you grow your business.

2. Think Mobile First

Studies have revealed that we touch our phones an average of 2,617 times a day! This is exactly where and how you should reach and engage with your customers as more Malaysians access the internet via their phones. So when you design your website or online store, make sure it is first and foremost optimised for mobile.

3. Engage the Right Digital Partner

Work with a digital services provider to help you identify growth opportunities and equip you with ready solutions that best suit your business. You do not need to spend thousands – with the right partner and ecosystem, your business is well on the digital path!

4. Capture and Use Data Smarter

Start capturing data as early as you can. For example, using a cloud point-of-sales system to collect and manage sales data that can help you better understand customer behaviours. This will lead you to making more informed decisions when procuring profitable items, preparing for peak periods and ensuring you have the resources to manage capacity.
