As the work from home culture becomes a part of our lifestyle during this season, here are 8 ā€œlife hacksā€ to ensure you make the best out of working remotely from the comfort of your own home.

1. Do not skip meals
Without your colleagues signalling ā€œJom, lunch timeā€, you might not even realise that it is already 3pm and you have gone about your day without breakfast or lunch. If you anticipate back-to-back conference call and virtual meetings, do not be shy to request for a short break so you can whip up a quick meal and fuel up before you return for a productive session with the team.

2. Work from an actual desk
Instead of lying on your couch or bed, it might be more productive to work from an actual desk. Not only will it put you in the right mindset, it will help with your posture as well. If you do not have a work desk at home, you may resort to working from the living or dining room table so long as it is not too distracting for you.

3. Let your team know if you are going to be away
Grant your colleagues the courtesy of knowing that you will be stepping away from your laptop. This is crucial, considering how your colleagues are unable to physically see that you are away from your desk and might need urgent assistance at the time.

4. Ensure optimal connection Connectivity is vital when working from home as not only is it disruptive to have spotty connection, it can also come at a cost for those who are working on time-sensitive projects. Ensure that you are signed on to a bandwidth which is sufficient to support the entire household.

5. Start work and log off at the same time you usually do
Start and end work at the same time that you usually do. This not only sets a healthy work schedule from home, it also helps you fall into a similar routine and helps put you in the right mindset when you are at work and when you are at home.

6. Set up a video call - even if you donā€™t have to As humans, we crave for physical connection and going an entire month of working from home without connecting with your desk buddies can be mentally draining. This is particularly important for those who live on their own and might not have the leisure of physical banter with the family members, even if it is from across the hall.

7. Sign out from your social media accounts If your job does not warrant you to be on Facebook and Instagram, consider signing out from them. And do this with the right intention - by signing out you are eliminating distractions that could get into the way of work.

8. Be comfortable, but donā€™t overdo it
You are in the comfort of your own home and you have every right to dress as you please but be sure to be in decent attire especially if you are due for a video call sometime throughout the day.
